Collaboration.
Commitment. Accountability. Respect.
Inclusivity. Integrity. That’s our PTA motto. Our goal? To make every
child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities
to advocate for all children. I believe we have accomplished this to the best
of our abilities this year.
At our most recent general membership meeting, we elected
our new board of officers and committee chairs for next year. I would like to
say thanks to all who stepped up to help further the goals of our community. I
would especially like to welcome Shelly DeCapio as President of the 2013-2014
PTA!
I was delighted to serve as the president for this year.
Together we helped our schools host their first ever STEM Night, we brought the
PTA further into the digital era by creating a master database of all of our
members and their volunteer interests, we welcomed in new volunteers using the
likes of SignUp Genius and our blog site, we raised our group from 60 to 180 on
Facebook, we supported our teachers with fantastic Back to School Breakfasts
and Teacher Appreciation week, and we listened to our schools and supported
them in areas where they needed us (e.g., funding for reading incentives,
kindergarten projects, and school planners for next year, and volunteers to
help with school beautification). Our committees worked hard to gain and retain
volunteers for countless events at our schools, we hosted our first Internet
Safety Night, we helped to get part of the MES playground in place, and we
found many little ways to boost our income (and so much more)!
I am proud of how far we came this year, and I am excited
for the plans that we have laid for next year. We have already outlined
numerous family events for the future, student clubs for after school, and we
have outlined ways to streamline our membership campaign in the fall while
working with the schools to create our comprehensive student directory in the
most efficient way. A lot of the hard work we did this year will be most
appreciated in the fall when we get to reap the benefits.
I will be moving on to chair the fundraising committee next
year, but before I go, I would be remiss if I did not thank each and every one
of you for all you have done to help the PTA.
The National PTA calculated that volunteer time in Maryland is worth
$23.05 per hour, so that means that our parents contributed the equivalent of $158,330.45 (6,869 hours). That is
remarkable. Thanks for all your hard
work!
